Hi,
The page looks great. I wish that something like this had existed when
I was installing as it would have saved me *weeks*. It would also be very
nice if we could get the archives of
linuxppc-ans-support@hellfire.dusers.drexel.edu on the web somewhere.. do
they exist?
I do have a couple comments on the page:

regarding the hellfire installer.coff and kernel:

- a fair amount of people have experienced lockups or strange failures of
the hellfire installer.coff during the installation media selection
phase. If this happens to you (when you choose to install from
ftp/cdrom/nfs) don't use this installer. As Dave Beck pointed out,
it apparently works for some people (ANS 700's only??)
- the last kernel that I tried from hellfire had a bug in which the mknod
system call did not work - this makes it impossible to copy over the
/dev directory to the new target filesystem.
- the kernel on hellfire is the only one I've seen in which the video
drivers work properly (I saw a posting earlier where someone mentioned
that there was work underway to re-syncronize the ANS video patches)
The kernels that I've compiled will work, but the colors will be funny,
and the more recent kernels don't have a working display (but they boot
up and I can login remotely..) so if you're using your ANS as a
workstation, you may want to install using one of my kernels or one you
compile with scsi and ethernet support, copy over to the internal disk,
and then go back to the hellfire kernel so that your video works
properly (at the expense of your mknod() call which if you're using the
ANS as a workstation, you may not need frequently or perhaps at all)

regarding copying the files:
- instead of copying one directory at a time, you can just use:
# cp -ax / /copy
-x means to avoid crossing filesystems so you don't have to worry about
copying /proc or /copy
- you can alternately use cpio (this is from Povl H. Pedersen
<pope@netguide.dk>)
# cd /; find . -depth -xdev | cpio pad /copy

regarding the battery ritual:
- I would put in bold to un plug the power cable
- what helps if you have to do this alot is to remove the top so you can
get access to the battery without having to remove and re-insert the
motherboard which as you point out is difficult.
