Ok - here's my story. I compiled the kernel with egcs-1.1b,
but it seems as if the resultant kernel no longer works :-(
Even more odd, after the new kernel breaks, I have to remove
power from the machine for a number of minutes before it will
boot again..

The color fix problem is due to the lack of a driver for
the cirrus 54m30 (or whatever the number is) in the ANS'es...
Check out the pmac-cons.c and cirrus* files in the
drivers/macintosh/ directory on our kernel source. You
should be able to just plug and play those files into a
linuxppc.org kernel...
