Hi,
I had a similiar problem (and still do).. what I found is that for me,
booting will fail if the quik.conf file, or any of the kernel files are in
any directory other than / - further more, I can't move a new kernel to
the root directory (it will fail to boot) - instead I must copy it.
What I did is move quik.conf to the root, and then do 'quik -C /quik.conf'
and have all my kernels sitting in the root also.. also, I found that
having no quik.conf file will also allow you to boot.
