Hi there,
we have done the installation of linuxppc-r4.1 on an
Apple-Network-Server 500 - but still X-Windows doesn't work.
The facts:
---------
ANS 500 /132
Installer, boot-kernel and description from ftp.emji.net
RedHat-R4 (.1 ?) from mirror ftp.apfel.de (burned on CD)
RedHat-R4 (.1 ?) from mirror ftp.uni-bremen.de (installed via ftp)
Kernels: 2.2.4 from ftp.emji.net
2.2.7 from ftp.cyberflunk.com
The ERROR
---------
#startx
Fatal server error:
Failed to establish all listening sockets
giving up
May be that this error relates on the fact, that the folowing 3 lines
are displayed on the virtual console 4 while the installer is running
(every installer we tested):
socket error
bind error
listen error
The QUESTIONS
-------------
- IS THERE ANYBODY WHO HAS X11 ON AN Apple-Network-Server 500 RUNNING ?
It seems that this is a kernel-problem, but we also can't find anything
to configure our X-Windows !!!
- Where should the XF86Config-Tool reside (if there is any) ?
Which RPM or ftp-Server ?
There is no */XF86Config in the hole system or any tool to create it
(no xf86config, no XF86Setup, no XConfigurator, no sax, nor *onfig*,
or anything else) !!!
- We've got 459 rpm-packages in /RedHat/RPMS/ and have searched and
installed them all - is there something missing in our PPC-distribution?
- Where is the specific documentation about this XF86 for LinuxPPC ?
If it is the same as for Intel - where are the XF86Config-man-Pages or
Packages in the Linuxppc-Distribution ?
- Is PMAC the correct X-Server for the Apple-Network-Server (ANS) ?
HAS ANYBODY AN IDEA ON THIS PROBLEM ??
