I also ran into this with the different kernel versions. Seems the
NCR/symbios driver isn't quite perfect... the 2.2.7 with NCR (not Sym)
seems pretty good, but haven't done any large file transfers...

p.s. both my ANS's came with Seagate/Apple drives stock...
