Try the following from your boot prompt:
ins.ydl.coff ncr53c8xx=safe:y
or
vmlinux.coff ncr53c8xx=safe:y
This will bring up the SCSI controller in safe mode, and avoid a problem
with the controller software talking to the drives in the ANS 700 (At
least, that's what I ran into..)
When you've finally gotten it installed, you'll want to add the following
item to your quik.conf file, under the block for your default boot
(usually named 'linux')
append="ncr53c8xx=disc:n,ultra:n,sync:255,tags:0,verb:2"
(I've added it right under the line that reads 'label = linux')
