LinuxPPC 4.1 Shutdown Problem

When I issue the shutdown now command, my ANS 500 with LinuxPPC 4.1 doesn't
completely shutdown. It will go all the way to a screen that looks like:

Starting kerneld services: kerneld Starting kerneld, version 2.1.85 (pid
740)

Telling INIT to go to single user mode.
INIT: Going single user
INIT: Sending process the TERM signal
bash#

And this is as far as it gets. Not knowing what to do after a long wait, I
typed ps ax and this is what I get:

PID TTY STAT TIME COMMAND
1 ? S 0:01 init
2 ? SW 0:00 (kflushd)
3 ? SW 0:00 (kpoid)
4 ? SW 0:00 (kswapd)
740 ? S 0:00 kerneld
743 1 S 0:00 init
744 1 S 0:00 /bin/sh
747 1 R 0:00 ps ax

I don't know if the above is helpful, but if anyone knows what might be
happening, please let me know.

TIA,

Steve
