When we last left Chuck he was pondering the mysteries of a missing quik...

Thanks to Darron Froese I installed quik from the CD, and then
resumed following Scott Every's instructions...

quik *seemed* to run OK. Though it did spit out a fatal error about
my /boot device not being Mac formatted. I figured that is what it
should say... (feel free to clue me otherwise)

I then edited my /etc/fsck file to prevent /boot from getting fscked.

I halted the box, and booted into Open Firmware.

Scott's previously exceptionally lucid directions failed me here but
I was able to find some long dormant memory cells that still
contained some OF esoterica. I typed "setenv auto-boot? true" and
"setenv boot-device disk2:0" both of which OF "ok"ed.

Now typing "boot" at the OF prompt gets me:

disk2:0 can't OPEN: /bandit/disk2:0 can't OPEN: /bandit/53c825@11/disk2:0 can't OPEN: /bandit/53c825@11/sd@2,0:0

I figured, based on Scott's logic, I'd try "setenv boot-device
disk1:0" since my internal drive is at scsi ID 1. But booting with
that gave this:
disk1:0 can't OPEN: /bandit/disk1:0 can't OPEN: /bandit/53c825@11/disk1:0 can't OPEN: /bandit/53c825@11/sd@1,0:0

I also tried some other stuff off the demonsys pages (who shook loose
even more OpenFirmware esoterica in my skull) such as "setenv
boot-device scsi/boot-device scsi/sd@1:0"

These failed with identical errors.

Otherwise things are OK. I fixed the annoying cmos clock that was set
to 1956. I'm able to telnet in from my other hosts, etc. I'm booting
from the floppy and everything is looking good, I just would like to
be able to boot this thing from the hd.

Insight anyone?

Thanks!
