Hi everybody,
I haven't had a chance to switch to LinuxPPC on our ANS 700 yet (have to
wait till end of term), but have the very intention to do so as soon as
possible.
At the moment we are still using AIX 4.1.5. Is anyone familiar with that
still, or might our problem be in OF?
Here the question:
Every time we boot the machine, it takes ages to get past the 538 message
on the LCD - display. I even have the strange feeling, that the time it
sits there and waits for ... (?), gets longer and longer with every boot!
I could not get any info on what the message 538 means, nor what the cure
for the long wait is (at this point between 4 and 5 minutes!). I also do
not know if the message is caused by AIX already, or not, since the screen
is grey and no AIX logo or anything is seen at that point. After the long
wait, the boot process continues normally and the machine performs without
any problems untill the next reboot. Quite annoying.
Some additional description about the machine that might help:
ANS 700 150MHz (onboard ethernet is in use too)
Apple PCI 2 Channel RAID Controller (3 x 4GB and 4 x 9GB drives attached, ->
hd0 4GB, hd1 4GB, hd2 27GB - all level 5)
4 PCI Apple 100 Mbit Ethernet Cards (one not in use at the moment, but problem
persists, even if card is attached to
network)
Machine is set up to do seed routing for 4, eventually 5 segments, as well
as TCP/IP routing. HELIOS Ethershare is used for ASIP (appx. 250-300
students in our department store their graphics work on the machine, 40 Mac
Workstations).
Any help/info appreciated.
BTW will it at all be possible to switch over to LinuxPPC with the RAID setup?
Sincerely,
Alexander Holst
