More on LCD and lcdproc

Ok, figured it out.

First of all I started by downloading/compiling/installing the latest kernel
build (2.2.14). Then I downloaded lcdproc, patched it and compiled/installed
it.
Then, I ran mknod as root. The command should look like this:

mknod lcd c 10 160

Ps: I was in the /dev directory already.

Now, if youve installed the new kernel correctly then doing a command like:

date > /dev/lcd

Should print out something. :)

So then try running lcdproc:

/usr/local/bin/LCDd -d HD44780_ANS
/usr/local/bin/lcdproc C M T X &

If all went like it should you should get neat stuff on your LCD. Enjoy.

Thanks to all the people who had already posted this info in chunks.
